For the 15th time, the renowned WIFT event at Berlinale will traditionally take place at the historical Meistersaal at Potsdamer Platz. Officially supported by Berlin International Film Festival, it is a collaboration between WIFT Germany, WIFT Sweden/Nordic and WIFT International, among others. The gathering of about 250 female professionals has become an integral part of actions to highlight the importance of gender equality and representation in the film industry. By discussing relevant industry-specific issues and connecting film professionals over a wide variety of crafts and countries – even continents – this event contributes to an ongoing development towards a more gender-equal filmmaking. In 2020 our headline will be “Feminine Intelligence” focusing on the intersection of film and tech, and the impact of artificial intelligence on the stories we tell, how we tell them and why. An important aspect will be the consideration of intersectionality and how data and algorithms might reinforce existing biases. Making a statement about the strong leadership by specifically inviting female experts, we will make sure to curate a panel with diverse perspectives and backgrounds to ignite a lively discussion.
The event is hosted by Women in Film and Television Germany, with Women in Film and Television Nordic and Women in Film and Television International, with the support of Swedish Film Institute, Swedish Embassy and the 70. Berlinale.
