Highlights of our first year!
In June of 2018, a new Board of Directors for WIFTI was voted in and met in Nashville, Tennessee. During that time we started to plan new actions and activities for WIFTI and are pleased to report on our progress over the past year.
We agreed that our new strategy would focus on three pillars –
Knowledge, Connection and Visibility
Under these three pillars we identified priorities including to re-brand WIFTI, incorporate as an organization, develop a strategy to bring value to our members, and reach out and partner with other WIFT and WIFT-like organizations and industry partners around the world.
To date, we have:
- Designed a new logo and launched a re-designed website (https://WIFTI.net)
- Incorporated as a non-profit organization based in the US
- Introduced new programs including 10% for 50/50, WIFTI Talks, and the WIFTI channel on HerFlix (a VOD platform)
- Hosted events and attended various festivals to enhance our visibility and connect with members, including TIFF, Berlinale, Sundance, SxSW and Cannes
We will soon be releasing our Annual Report for 2018-19, which will include more details on these activities. Our fiscal year for WIFTI has been set for September 1st to August 31st.
Moving forward, we are excited about our upcoming WIFT International Summit in Auckland, NZ on October 2nd, 2019 in conjunction with the Power of Inclusion Conference (Oct 3rd-4th) hosted by the New Zealand Film Commission and WIFTI with support from The Walt Disney Studios.
WIFT International Summit – October 2nd, 2019
WIFTI is excited to be hosting the 2019 WIFT International Summit on October 2nd in Auckland, NZ as an adjunct to the NZFC’s Power of Inclusion conference.
Our WIFTI day is focused on visibility, connection and the sharing of knowledge in the international marketplace. This includes a Master Class with Philippa Boyens, Academy Award-winning writer of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and co-producer and writer of King Kong, The Hobbit Trilogy and The Lovely Bones.
Additionally Kirsten Schaffer, Executive Director of Women in Film Los Angeles, will provide an introduction to Collective Action together with other international panelists. WIFTI will then focus the afternoon on discussions of priorities and action items for WIFTI on a going forward basis.
You are invited to be part of this global gathering!
For more information, see the conference website https://powerofinclusion.co.nz and click on the menu for the WIFTI Summit page where our programme can be found. We look forward to seeing you there!
If your chapter is sending a representative to the WIFTI summit, please let us know. We will be providing an opportunity for attending chapters to present their organizations at the Summit and have developed a template to help facilitate your presentation. We will send out to attending chapters before the Summit.
Changes in WIFTI Membership Structure
Over the past year, we have been having discussions with our chapters across the globe and have realized the WIFTI membership structure needs to be changed.
We have heard feedback that the structure needs to work for all our chapters, no matter if big or small, brand-new or well-established.
So for the 2019-2020 fiscal year (Sept 1st, 2019 to Aug 31st, 2020) we are presenting a new membership model.
(Also, we will no longer require chapters that wish to re-join WIFTI to pay for previous years’ memberships in order to re-activate their membership).
Therefore, for the fiscal year September 1st 2019 to August 31st 2020, membership fees will be applied as follows:
$50 USD for chapters with less than 50 members
$100 USD for chapters with 50 – 100 members
$200 USD for chapters with more than 100 members
$300 USD for chapters with more than 200 members
$400 USD for chapters with more than 300 members
$500 USD for all chapters with more than 400 members
All WIFT member chapters will be qualified to nominate one of their Board members to the WIFTI nomination committee for a seat on the board of WIFTI, as long as annual membership fees have been paid prior to February 1st, 2020.
This nomination to the WIFTI nomination committee can then be made by February 15th, 2020 for the general assembly to take place in summer 2020.
In the event an existing member chapter would have to pay more than their previous level of membership fees, within the structure outlined above, the member chapter can opt to use the previous model based on $2 USD per member. This only applies to existing current member chapters.
For WIFT-like networks all over the world with whom we share our goals, we invite you to become WIFTI partners, with fees applied as follows:
$50 USD annually for the first two years.
After two years our WIFT partners have the option to become voting members with membership fees to be applied as above for WIFT chapters, based on the size of membership.

Next Presidents Call
Lastly, we have the next presidents call coming up on September 19th, 8pm Central European Time. On the agenda: WIFTI annual report 2018-2019.
With all good wishes,
