WIFTI (Women in Film and Television International) is excited to launch a quarterly online event series called GLOBAL LENS! The allotted time also allows for members to attend breakout rooms after the recorded discussion. We thank our new Event Partners, Stage32, for their support with the launch of this event!
The series will be moderated by Ina Sotirove (WIFTJA Director) and feature Renee Robinson (Former Film Commission of Jamaica), Tashara Johnson (Producer) and Gaberielle Blackwood (DOP), and a live Q/A will follow. The event will be a celebration of the resilient Jamaican women in the space and an opportunity to see through their lens, the pathway to success for women in the screen industries.

Each GLOBAL LENS event will spotlight a different WIFTI chapter, offering a deep dive into the specific challenges, opportunities, and success stories within each region. These events will not only highlight the unique experiences and cultural contexts that shape the film and television industries in different parts of the world but will also address universal themes related to visibility, gender equality, and inclusivity in the screen industries. This series aims to create an open space where WIFTI chapters can share experiences and best practices in navigating gender equality, providing inspiration for reflection, learning, and growth across the entire network.
It’s an opportunity for filmmakers, industry professionals, and supporters alike to reflect on their own practices, gain a humbling perspective on the shared struggles faced globally, and recognise that, despite regional differences, the fight for gender equality in film and television is a common cause. By seeing the issues through the lens of different chapters, participants will gain a more nuanced understanding of the challenges and the potential for collective change in the industry.
